Inflatable Chopsticks Concept Rolls Up for Portability

Designer Liam de la Bedoyere has conceived 'Popsticks,' a concept for inflatable chopsticks that can be rolled up and stored in a pocket.

The design addresses the potential inconvenience of not having chopsticks available. When deflated, each stick rolls into a compact spiral and inflates into an elongated utensil when needed. The translucent blue design is inspired by 1990s inflatable objects.

The idea originated from an Instagram creative challenge focused on the theme 'Inflatable.' De la Bedoyere developed the concept in three dimensions, exploring how a common dining utensil could be reimagined using materials typically associated with toys or temporary furniture.

Popsticks is described as an 'unnecessary emergency product,' following de la Bedoyere's previous concept, the 'Emergency Moustache.' The project aims to experiment with how familiar objects can change in appearance, behavior, and travel.

Currently, Popsticks remains a concept and is not commercially available. Questions regarding materials, rigidity, and practical usability in daily life are yet to be answered. The appeal lies in challenging expectations for ordinary objects and offering a playful alternative to conventional tableware.
