Lee Broom's Chant Chambers Installation Evokes 1970s Glamour

Designer Lee Broom has unveiled "The Chant Chambers," an installation at his Shoreditch showroom for London Design Festival, showcasing his glass-block Chant lighting collection.

The installation features the modular Chant lights in various forms, including portable lamps, wall lamps, linear pendants, and chandeliers, presented within interconnected spaces designed to create a cinematic atmosphere. The showroom is enhanced with wood-panelled walls, carpeting, stone plinths, and sculptures, aiming for an "atmospheric environment" rather than a simple product display.

Broom explained that the installation explores how repeated cubic forms can be transformed through different configurations, reflecting a trend where clients seek adaptable lighting solutions for their interiors. Linear arrangements of glass-cube pendants create geometric, architectural designs.

The installation's moody, smoky colour palette is inspired by Chant's new smoked-glass finish, which Broom notes nods to the late 1970s and early 80s when glass blocks were common in modern architecture. This palette aims to create an alluring and atmospheric space that highlights the lighting's geometry.

Broom believes his Chant light contributes to a resurgence of 1970s-inspired interiors, particularly in reintroducing geometric forms and glass blocks with a contemporary expression. He emphasizes that this aesthetic allows lighting to become a focal point, influencing both the fixtures and the ambience they create.

The Chant Chambers installation is on display at 95 Rivington Street, London, from September 15 to 20.
