La Colmena: Multi-family Housing as Shared Neighborhood Infrastructure

A project in Durán, Ecuador, aims to counteract urban isolation by creating shared living spaces within a revitalized neighborhood.

The project, designed by Ancestra and Natura Futura, is located in Durán, a city experiencing social and urban challenges that have led to increased isolation. In response, a retired couple acquired a dilapidated property with the goal of developing three living units.

The intention is to foster a productive and safe environment, thereby revitalizing the surrounding neighborhood. The project spans 335 m² and is slated for completion in 2026. It falls under the categories of Mixed Use Architecture, Housing, and Adaptive Reuse.
