Kromme Rijn College Renovation

A 1950s secondary school in Utrecht, the Netherlands, is being renovated and extended to house the Kromme Rijn College, saving it from demolition.

The existing ULO secondary school building, constructed between 1956 and 1958, was designed by Utrecht architect Piet Dingemans. It had been vacant for at least two decades.

Local residents' efforts led to the building being saved from demolition. Following research, SPO Utrecht and the Municipality of Utrecht decided to proceed with its renovation and the addition of a new extension.

The project, led by EVA architecten, involves a total area of 1550 m² and is scheduled for completion in 2026. Key collaborators include ICS Adviseurs for project management and SWINN for structural engineering.

The renovation and extension are categorized under Schools, Renovation, and Sustainability. Manufacturers involved include Faust Linoleum, Forbo Eurocol Nederland, and Formica Group, among others.
