Mipmapping Demo on ESP32-S3
A demonstration showcases mipmapping, a level-of-detail rendering technique, on the ESP32-S3 microcontroller using the Jet rendering engine.

Mipmapping enhances 3D scene detail without taxing rendering hardware by showing less detail when objects are further away. This technique was previously demonstrated on N64 hardware.
To fit the textures within the ESP32-S3's 16 MB PSRAM, the texture sizes were compressed to 8-bit indexing, resulting in 5.01 MB of texture data, significantly less than the 40 MB used in the N64 demo.
A video of the demo shows camera movement through the scene, highlighting the ESP32-S3's capability as a gaming machine, comparable to some 1990s consoles, even without a dedicated 3D GPU.
