Jaguar Unveils Type 01 Electric Car, Signaling New Brand Era

Jaguar has launched its second all-electric production vehicle, the Type 01, designed to be distinct from other EVs and mark a new chapter for the brand. The car is a production version of the Type 00 concept.

The Type 01 features a four-door aluminum body with a long bonnet, thin dual headlights, and a rear-leaning stance. It lacks a rear window, relying on cameras, and incorporates a unique rear quarter panel called the "Impossible Panel," which design software initially deemed unpressable. The car measures 5.2 meters long and 1.4 meters high, placing it in GT territory.

Jaguar emphasized a "Jaguar first" design philosophy, with the electric powertrain as an enabler, aiming for emotional connection rather than homogenous EV design. Key design elements include a significant "luxury gap" between the front axle and door, frameless doors, and distinctive 23-inch wheels engineered for airflow.

The Type 01 boasts 1,000 PS, accelerating to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds. It is equipped with a 118 kWh battery, offering an EPA range of 400 miles and a WLTP range of up to 450 miles. The design also contributes to performance, with air flowing past the body generating rearward push.

The interior features a single rail dividing the cabin, furniture-like seating with textiles from Kvadrat, and brass detailing, aiming to evoke a sense of warmth and home. A screen behind the wheel serves as the dash, with additional screens for controls and a replacement for the traditional rear-view mirror.
