Teen Innovators Honored with IEEE Presidents’ Scholarship for Inventions Aiding People with Disabilities
Three high school students received IEEE Presidents’ Scholarship awards at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair for their innovative projects designed to assist individuals with disabilities. The awards recognize exceptional talent in fields relevant to the IEEE.

Hollie Tang won the top $10,000 scholarship for her "Tonguage" system, a noninvasive, computer-vision-based human-machine interface that uses tongue movements and eye blinks to control devices like wheelchairs and computers. The system is designed to be affordable and accessible, utilizing standard laptop cameras.
Partap Sidhu received the second-place award of $600 for "NeuroGait," a mind-controlled, lower-limb exoskeleton that interprets brain signals to assist with movement. His system uses an EEG headset and a convolutional neural network to command pneumatic artificial muscles, achieving high accuracy at a significantly lower cost than commercial alternatives.
Calvin Shang Hung was awarded third place with a $400 scholarship for "Math Into Motion: Robotic Hexapod for Hazardous Environments." This six-legged robot, inspired by insect locomotion, is designed to navigate unstable terrain and has potential applications in disaster relief and conflict zones for locating survivors or delivering supplies.
