IEEE Announces 2027 Technical Field Award Recipients

The IEEE has recognized numerous researchers and innovators for their significant contributions across various technological fields. These awards celebrate achievements that have a lasting impact on technology, engineering, and society.

The IEEE Technical Field Awards honor individuals and teams for extraordinary technical achievements, societal impact, and leadership. Award categories span microelectronics, artificial intelligence, medical robotics, wireless networks, energy conversion, and technical education.

Recipients include Kullervo Hynynen for therapeutic ultrasound, Edward Charles Gage, Ganping Ju, and Jan-Ulrich Thiele for heat-assisted magnetic technology, and Arjan van der Schaft for nonlinear control systems.

Further honorees are Zoya Popović for microwave circuit designs, Chin-Hui Lee for speech and audio processing, Nicholas Dimitrios Sidiropoulos for signal processing, and John Robert Brews for MOS devices.

Mike Lazaridis received the Masaru Ibuka Consumer Technology Award for mobile communication contributions, while Matthew Roughan was recognized for Internet traffic analysis.

Awards were also presented for power electronics, instrumentation, integrated circuit testing, graduate teaching, network systems, video coding, solid-state circuits, optoelectronics, robotics, neural networks, laser-driven particle sources, and societal infrastructure.

Additional awards recognized contributions in wireless communications, electric machines, computer vision, electric vehicle technologies, electronic packaging, and undergraduate teaching. The Lotfi A. Zadeh Award for Emerging Technologies was given for AI-based control methods.
