House and Studio in Kyoto

Tato Architects designed a combined studio and residence for ceramic artists in a commercial district of Kyoto, Japan.

The site is a narrow plot, typical of "eel's bed" properties, facing west and extending deep to the east. The surrounding area is characterized by dense mid- and high-rise developments, including housing, workshops, a hotel under construction, and a parking lot.

The clients required ample studio space at ground level due to the large scale of their ceramic works. The project was completed in 2020 and has an area of 321 m².
