Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and MIT President Sally Kornbluth will inaugurate MIT Future Fest, a new annual festival dedicated to exploring the future of science, technology, art, and design. The event, themed "The Future Begins Here," will celebrate Massachusetts' innovation and talent.

The festival will commence on Wednesday, September 30, at 3:30 PM at MIT’s Kresge Auditorium. The opening panel will feature Governor Healey, President Kornbluth, Moderna co-founder Noubar Afeyan, MIT professor Sangeeta Bhatia, and Commonwealth Fusion Systems CEO Bob Mumgaard. Economic Development Secretary Eric Paley will moderate the discussion on fostering collaboration between public, private, and educational institutions to sustain talent, drive impact from discovery, and build the future.

She highlighted breakthroughs in AI, robotics, clean energy, and life sciences, and expressed her administration's commitment to investing in talent, research, and partnerships to make the state a destination for global innovators.

MIT President Sally Kornbluth described the festival as a celebration of curiosity and the spirit of asking fundamental questions, which drives transformative innovation. She stated, "When you bring together engineers, inventors, artists, scientists, designers and entrepreneurs, you create the conditions for truly transformative innovation." The festival aims to foster a collaborative conversation, emphasizing that the future is actively created.
