MM Collective: Ceramic Vases Blend Floral Inspiration with Generative Code

MK Designers, a collaboration between graphic designer Michaela Zdeňková and product designer Marek Kounovský, has created a series of three ceramic flower vases called MM Collective. The collection explores the intersection of graphic and product design.

Each vase is inspired by a specific flower—peony, lily, and tulip—chosen for its personal significance to the designers. The process begins with the natural form of a flower, which is then translated into an abstract structure through generative coding. This digital pattern is subsequently applied to the surface of the ceramic vase.

The resulting patterns are abstract and not immediately recognizable as their floral origins. This method connects the organic and the digital, integrating graphic language into the three-dimensional form of the vases.

The choice of flowers also reflects the designers' personal relationship and their habit of exchanging flowers. The peony is Zdeňková's favorite, the lily is Kounovský's, and the tulip was a mutual choice.

The MM Collective series merges personal sentiment with distinct design disciplines, examining the relationship between graphic and spatial design, code and material, and natural form and digital transformation.
