Cyberattack hits Machelen municipality

The municipality of Machelen has been grappling with a cyberattack since Friday, 11 September, which has resulted in various services being limited or unavailable. The physical counters are closed.

The attack started via phishing. The municipality, together with external specialists, is investigating the impact, possible damage, and whether personal data has been leaked. For now, the latter does not appear to be the case.

All services running via the affected server have been shut down. Email communication is therefore not possible. Residents can still pick up driving licenses and passports and contact the municipality by phone.

The website and e-desk continue to function, as do the digital services of the nursing home and the daycare center.
