Zaha Hadid's Former HQ Becomes Public Arts Venue

The Zaha Hadid Foundation is opening a new public arts venue in London, housed in the late architect's former studio headquarters. The space aims to be a hub for architecture and design, continuing Hadid's legacy.

The venue, located in Clerkenwell, is in a Victorian school building that served as Zaha Hadid Architects' base for over 30 years. Studio KA refurbished the ground floor, enhancing circulation and restoring original features.

The foundation's director, Aric Chen, stated the venue will keep Hadid's legacy alive through programs and exhibitions from her archive, fostering engagement with architectural culture.

The space will open next month with a symposium co-organized with the Architectural Association and Serpentine Galleries, marking the foundation's tenth anniversary.

An inaugural exhibition will focus on Zaha Hadid and her studio's stage and set designs. Art commissions include a video installation by LionHeart and a timeline by Mona Chalabi.

The venue features newly completed galleries, display areas, a learning space, and a lecture hall for future events, workshops, and residencies. Original architectural elements, including Z-shaped door pulls, have been preserved.

The Zaha Hadid Foundation, established in 2013, has also unveiled a new visual identity and website. Hadid's former studio was recently renamed ZHA.
