Repair of a 168 TB Seagate LaCie RAID Array
A 168 TB Seagate LaCie Thunderbolt 3 RAID storage system, acquired by the Slow Mo Guys in 2019, ceased to power up, prompting an attempt at repair by Mend it Mark after the device went out of warranty and Seagate support was unhelpful.

Upon initial inspection, the array showed no signs of life, with no fans running and only a few LEDs illuminating when power was supplied. Mend it Mark, lacking repair guides or schematics, began a basic diagnosis. The investigation focused on the power rails, which were not activating correctly. This led to the NXP LPC11U6x-series MCU, responsible for power management. Mark determined the MCU was not enabling all power rails due to a missing signal from the fan controllers on the SATA backplane. After confirming the MCU was sending the correct signals and that the fans operated when directly powered, the fault was traced to a single SI2319 or similar P-channel MOSFET near a fan connector. Replacing this MOSFET resolved the issue, allowing the RAID array to power up. The ultimate test will be when the hard drives are reinserted. The repair was inexpensive in terms of parts, highlighting the lack of available repair documentation for such devices.
