Ubiquiti 16-Port PoE Switch Repair

A damaged Ubiquiti 16-port PoE network switch was salvaged and repaired, restoring functionality to four affected ports.

The repair involved diagnosing issues with four ports and their PoE function on a Ubiquiti 16-port network switch. Upon inspection, a Broadcom BCM5911 controller chip was found to have a damaged plastic casing. Probing revealed that several MOSFETs and a diode connected to this chip were shorted, indicating significant damage from a connected Ethernet device.

The primary challenge was sourcing a replacement Broadcom IC, as it is no longer stocked by major electronic component distributors. The chip was eventually found on AliExpress for a low cost, with the inherent risks of purchasing components from such platforms.

Despite potential risks, the replacement chip appeared to be genuine. After installation, the four previously non-functional ports were restored, and the switch successfully powered a PoE camera, indicating a successful repair.
