Fitbit founders launch AI-powered wristband to monitor health of whole family

James Park and Eric Friedman, founders of Fitbit, have launched Luffu Link, a wireless wristband designed to track the health and safety of multiple family members simultaneously. The device aims to consolidate health data from various sources into a single platform.

Luffu Link is a sleek, wireless wristband available in onyx black, halo gold, and sterling blue, featuring a metallic body and a minimalist strap with a battery life of up to five days. It is the first physical component of the AI-powered Luffu app, designed to gather and combine individual family members' health data.

The screenless wristband has a voice-controlled button for recording everyday health details such as symptoms, medications, mood changes, and meal plans. It also continuously tracks background activity like sleep patterns, calories burned, resting heart rate, and breathing rate.

The wristband's built-in GPS enables location sharing and alerts users when individuals enter or leave designated areas. A double-press of the button can send a "simple check-in" to selected family members, reducing the need for phone calls.

Motivated by the rise in family caregivers, Park and Friedman hope Luffu Link will streamline communication and address gaps in consumer health tools by syncing health and safety data. They noted that families currently piece together information from numerous disconnected sources.

The Luffu app is compatible with existing individual wearables, but Luffu Link is intended to enhance the user experience. The AI in Luffu products collects data through voice, text, photos, and connected data, aiming to provide proactive intelligence for families.
