Ferrari's Rarest Paint Finish on Its Only Matte Enzo at Auction

A 2004 Ferrari Enzo, uniquely finished in Matte Nero Opaco from the factory, is set to be auctioned by RM Sotheby's. This car was commissioned by a member of the Royal Family of Brunei and predates the widespread adoption of matte finishes on vehicles.

The Enzo, designed by Ken Okuyama at Pininfarina, features a naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12 engine producing 660 horsepower, carbon-ceramic brakes, and race-derived technology. Ferrari initially produced 399 Enzos, with most finished in traditional colors like Rosso Corsa. This particular car, commissioned for its bespoke specifications, was completed in October 2004 and spent its early life in London before moving to the Asia-Pacific region.

The Enzo returned to Europe in 2022 for an extensive restoration at Carrozzeria Zanasi, costing over €110,000. The work included repainting the body in its original matte finish and replacing various components. Ferrari Classiche certified the car in the same year, confirming its original chassis, engine, gearbox, and bodywork.

The one-off Enzo has traveled just 5,763 kilometers. A new clutch and fuel pumps were fitted in August 2024. Bidding for the car opens on September 23 as part of RM Sotheby’s Sealed September sale, with no estimate provided by the auction house.
