Ukraine's Summer Crop Yields Expected to Be Fair

Ukraine anticipates fair summer crop yields, with regional variations due to weather patterns. Winter crop forecasts remain largely unchanged, with a slight upward revision for spring barley.

Winter crops experienced generally favorable conditions during grain filling, but persistent drought in western regions impacted yield formation. Frequent rainfall during harvest in July and early August delayed operations and affected grain quality in some areas. Wheat yields are expected to be above average, while rapeseed yields are close to forecasts.

Summer crops faced contrasting conditions, including delayed sowing due to a cold spring, followed by drought in the west and rainfall deficits in central and southeastern areas, which limited development. Abundant rainfall in July improved conditions in eastern regions, though August was predominantly dry. Vegetation development is above average in northern and northeastern areas but below average in the west and south.

Grain maize and sunflower yields are forecast slightly above the five-year average, at 7.40 t/ha and 2.29 t/ha respectively, leading to production estimates of 35.1 and 14.0 million tonnes. Soybean yields are projected to be 5% below average, with production at 3.68 million tonnes, a 23% decrease from the five-year average. The weakest prospects are in western regions, where drought particularly affected maize and soybean development.
