Estudio Zero designs pink co-living complex inspired by sound waves

Mexican architecture firm Estudio Zero has completed Amplitude Coliving, a pink-toned concrete co-living complex in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. The design is directly influenced by the physical shape of sound waves and the concept of energy transfer.

The 390-square-meter complex, finished in 2025, features arched forms and tapering columns that visually represent a sound wave, symbolizing the client's energy and the movement of community within the building.

Amplitude Coliving is organized around a central courtyard with a pool, shared kitchen, and dining area, serving as the social hub. Residents rent individual rooms and share these common spaces, fostering spontaneous social interaction.

The building includes open-air balconies with scalloped railings, leading to various apartment types: studios, units with private gardens, and double-height lofts.

The interior and exterior color palette incorporates terracotta-pink, hand-rendered stucco, board-formed concrete, and tropical hardwood, contrasting with glass blocks, steel staircases, and cable railings.

Hourglass-shaped concrete columns are a key structural element, visually echoing the waveform concept and reinforcing the idea of the building as a dynamic entity.

The design prioritizes natural ventilation through opposing openings, shaded corridors, and deep overhangs. Thermal mass from concrete and stucco helps regulate internal temperatures, while solar panels with battery storage ensure power during tropical weather events.
