Es Devlin's Rotating Library at London's Design Museum

Es Devlin: Other Worlds, a retrospective at London's Design Museum, features "An Infinite Library," a new installation showcasing over 2,000 books from the artist's personal collection.

The "An Infinite Library" sculpture is an eight-meter-wide triangular shelf that rotates above a mirrored floor. Books, including titles like James Gleick's Chaos and Toni Morrison's Beloved, are arranged by color. Devlin's recorded voice reads selected passages as projections move across the shelves.

The exhibition begins with a recreation of Devlin's South London studio, displaying books, maquettes, drawings, and tools, offering a glimpse into her creative process over three decades. This section includes models and work related to projects like The Lehman Trilogy and the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony.

"Come Home Again," an earlier work featuring cut-out drawings of endangered species, is also presented in a new installation beneath a mirrored ceiling, altering the viewer's perception of the detailed collection.

"An Infinite Library" is the latest in a series of sculptural libraries by Devlin, following installations in Milan, Miami, and Yorkshire. This is the first to be housed within a museum.

Following the exhibition, the books will be donated to local schools and charities through a partnership with Penguin Random House UK.
