EPFL Showcases Future Agriculture and Food Systems at Olma Fair

EPFL will participate in Switzerland's Olma fair in St. Gallen from October 8-18, 2026, presenting research and innovations for tomorrow's agriculture and food systems under the theme "Preserve, cultivate, feed".

The fair will highlight projects addressing challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and feeding a growing population, aiming to offer new perspectives on production, consumption, and ecosystem protection.

Research themes include "Observing our natural ecosystems" to understand climate change impacts on plants and soil cycles, "Putting research to work for the agriculture of tomorrow" focusing on innovative farming technologies, and "Building healthier and more sustainable food systems" exploring dietary changes and bio-based packaging.

EPFL start-ups will also be featured, including Ecorobotix, which uses autonomous robots to reduce crop protection product use, and Voltiris, showcasing solar panels for greenhouses that generate energy while aiding crop growth.

These start-ups demonstrate the EPFL ecosystem's ability to translate fundamental research into scalable, real-world innovations.

Interactive workshops will be offered to engage younger visitors, promoting science and technology to foster future interest in STEM fields.
