Elgato Key Lights Get Matter Upgrade
A streamer upgraded his Elgato Key Lights with ESP32-C3 boards to improve reliability and add Matter support.

The original lights would frequently stop responding, necessitating a power cycle. To address this, the existing controllers were replaced with ESP32-C3 boards, which offer native Matter support.
The swap involved replacing the original Realtek controller and PCA9635 LED controller with the ESP32-C3. This allowed the lights to integrate directly into an Apple Home setup.
The new controllers, running firmware coded in Rust, provide control over power, brightness, and color temperature within Apple Home.
This upgrade eliminated the need for Homebridge, removing a dependency and a potential point of failure in the smart home setup.
Design files for the modification are available on GitHub.
