Dyson reimagines toothbrush to address long-standing oral hygiene challenges
Dyson has entered the dental hygiene market with its new CameraJet toothbrush, aiming to disrupt a routine largely unchanged for decades. The company believes its engineering expertise can significantly improve plaque removal and flossing compliance.

According to Niamh Turney, senior commercial manager at Dyson, the brand targets areas of technology with unmet needs and potential for significant improvement. The CameraJet toothbrush features a camera-guided mouthwash jet designed to clean between teeth and remove plaque.
Dyson, known for innovating products like bagless vacuum cleaners and hand dryers, views electric toothbrushes as another category ripe for advancement. Turney highlighted persistent challenges with flossing compliance and effective plaque removal between teeth as key motivators for Dyson's entry.
The company's goal is to introduce advanced technology and precision to oral care, enabling better oral health through a more effective daily routine. Dyson aims to rethink the category entirely, rather than just incrementally improving existing products.
Turney noted that many people struggle with effective teeth cleaning routines, with low flossing compliance and missed areas where plaque accumulates. Dyson's CameraJet, developed over six years, combines brushing and interdental cleaning into a single action.
The toothbrush uses a camera and an AI-powered algorithm, trained on extensive dental imagery, to identify and clean gaps between teeth. Dyson reports that 661 engineers worked on the project, with testing involving a proxy plaque developed in collaboration with the National University of Singapore's dentistry faculty.
