Diesel's SS27 Show Blurs Lines Between Audience and Performance

Diesel's Spring/Summer 2027 runway show transformed a purpose-built club into an immersive experience where the audience was integrated into the performance.

Designed by Studio Dennis Vanderbroeck, the space removed any distance between guests and the action. Approximately 200 performers mingled with the audience, drawing spectators into scenes that shifted in tone, making it difficult to distinguish between invited performers and accidental participants.

The spatial concept drew inspiration from anatomical theatres but infused it with the energy of a music video or crowded dance floor. This created tension, as the audience was encouraged to look beyond the traditional runway. Lighting by Lightlab Studio and sound by Sen Studio contributed to the club's dynamic atmosphere.

The collection, Glenn Martens' last for Diesel, featured treated denim resembling leather, knitwear with cutaways, and twisted or undone garments that seemed to fit the environment of a night out.

Diesel has a history of creating shows that extend beyond the catwalk. For SS27, the intervention was brought indoors and placed in close proximity to the guests, making the club feel occupied by performers before the audience fully grasped the concept. By the end, the distinction between the show and the party dissolved.
