Homme Plissé Issey Miyake Showcases Matisse-Inspired Collection at Tate Modern

Fashion brand Homme Plissé Issey Miyake has launched a new capsule collection at London's Tate Modern, inspired by Henri Matisse's artwork 'The Snail'. The collection was revealed through a dance performance as part of the brand's global 'Open Studio' initiative.

The collection, informed by the vibrant colours of Matisse's collage, was presented in Tate Modern's The Tanks. Dancers from the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company revealed the garments, which feature the brand's signature pleats, by lifting them from a felt-covered floor.

The performance culminated with dancers revealing a fabric rendition of 'The Snail' artwork beneath the floor while wearing pieces from the collection decorated with the collage.

Homme Plissé Issey Miyake chose Tate Modern for its second Open Studio event due to the gallery's engagement with designers and its accessible approach to art, aligning with the brand's intention to share its design process with the public.

The capsule collection will be available at Tate Modern before its global release early next year.
