Curiosity Rover Marks 5,000 Days on Mars with Special Postcard Image

NASA's Curiosity Mars rover has reached its 5,000th Martian day (sol) of exploration. To commemorate this milestone, a special "postcard" image has been created using panoramas captured by the rover's navigation cameras.

The rover captured two black-and-white panoramas on August 30 and September 2, 2026, while situated at a sand ridge called "Chocolatal." These images correspond to sols 5,000 and 5,003 of the mission.

After being transmitted to Earth, the two images were combined. Artistic color was added, with blue signifying the morning view and yellow representing the afternoon view, creating a postcard-like effect.
