Crux South Climbing Gym / Derrington Building Studio

Derrington Building Studio has designed a new Crux South climbing gym in Austin, Texas, aiming to create a community hub focused on movement and gathering.

The project transforms a former gravel lot into a multi-use space. It is the brand's most ambitious undertaking to date.

The facility includes a climbing gym, a coffee shop named Switchback Coffee, a space for a future tenant, and an outdoor food truck plaza.

The total area of the project is 40,000 square feet, with a planned completion year of 2026.

Key collaborators include Tim Derrington as Lead Architect, with Minta Stohrer and Michael Rahmatoulin on the design team. Structural engineering was provided by Structures TX, MEP by Aptus Engineering, and lighting by Spectrum Lighting. Aday and Associates served as the general contractor.
