Brisbane Office Tower Features Copper Ellipse Shading

A 30-storey office tower in Brisbane, Australia, named 205 North Quay, has been designed with a unique facade to address the local subtropical climate.

The tower, designed by Hassell, Richards & Spence, and REX, incorporates copper-coloured ellipse-shaped shades on its east and west facades. These sunshades aim to reduce harsh sunlight and heat while allowing natural light and views. The design is inspired by traditional Queenslander homes and prioritizes a breathable facade for natural ventilation and reduced energy use.

The building's core is positioned on the north side to maximize river views. Each floor features a landscaped outdoor terrace, and the tower includes a shaded open-air plaza accessible to the public, a rooftop terrace, and a wellness floor with a lap pool and gym.
