Wiki World's Red Submarine Cabin: A Compact Forest Dwelling

Wiki World has designed the Red Submarine Cabin, a modular dwelling for remote landscapes in China, utilizing their Digital Wood technology for prefabricated construction.

The cabin, measuring just over 20 sqm, is inspired by submarine aesthetics with circular portholes and a compact interior featuring a living area, loft, and sleeping space. It aims to create a zero-footprint, plug-and-play living experience adaptable to various natural settings.

Conceptually, the project draws from the film Fitzcarraldo, translating a surreal relationship between a vessel and wilderness into a small-scale dwelling within a forest environment.

The design emphasizes a close connection between occupants and their surroundings, with windows framing views of the woodland and a loft offering elevated observation points. The reduced scale encourages a more intimate interaction with nature.

The structure is built using digitally designed and fabricated glued timber components, allowing for 100% prefabricated assembly. This approach, part of Wiki World's 'Playtime Cabin' concept, offers a customizable and precisely constructed dwelling.

To minimize site intervention, the cabin is elevated, preserving existing trees and bamboo and allowing the landscape to remain continuous beneath it. This elevated construction is key to its zero-footprint design philosophy.

The Red Submarine Cabin integrates prefabricated timber construction, digital fabrication, compact planning, and elevated placement to create a modular system that inserts into natural settings while respecting the existing environment.
