Sage Appliances Unveils Colour-Sensing Toaster

Sage Appliances has introduced a new toaster that utilizes color sensors to prevent burnt toast. Instead of relying on timers, the appliance measures the toast's browning level to determine when it's perfectly cooked.

The Eye Q toaster uses sensors to monitor toast color up to 10 times per second, automatically ejecting it when the desired shade is reached. This technology aims to eliminate burnt toast regardless of bread thickness or type.

The development team focused on color sensing as the primary metric, recognizing that traditional timers are less effective due to variations in bread. The biggest challenge was creating patent-protected sensors that could function reliably in the high heat of the toaster and withstand repeated use.

The toaster features a simple interface with a prominent start/stop button and settings for preferred browning levels. It also includes features like an automatic lowering and raising mechanism, a non-stick ceramic top for easy cleaning, and a retractable cable.
