Chrysler Building to Undergo Major Restoration and Renovation

Real estate developer Tishman Speyer has announced plans to restore the facade and overhaul at least 75% of the interiors of New York's iconic Chrysler Building, following a new lease agreement with its owner, The Cooper Union.

Tishman Speyer will invest $235 million in the extensive renovation of the 1.3 million-square-foot building, a landmark of art deco architecture designed by William Van Alen. The project aims to modernize mechanical systems and convert interiors into high-end offices.

The 61st floor, featuring art deco gargoyles, is planned to become an amenity space with a lounge, wellness elements, and terraces. Approximately 75% of office spaces will be prepared for quick tenant occupancy.

Public spaces will be maintained due to historic landmark designations. Renderings show pared-down interiors with art deco-inspired furnishings and luxury details.

Details about the architecture and interior design studios involved have not yet been released. Funds from the lease agreement will support The Cooper Union's educational mission.
