Carter Stubbs Appointed MIT Institute Auditor

Carter Stubbs has been named MIT's new Institute auditor, effective November 2, succeeding Michael Moody who is retiring. Stubbs brings over 11 years of experience within MIT and expertise in IT auditing.

Stubbs, currently assistant director for IT Audit and Advisory Services, was chosen for his audit and IT expertise, leadership, and understanding of MIT's operations. He will lead a team evaluating academic, research, and administrative processes, including Lincoln Laboratory operations, across financial, operational, compliance, and technology reviews.

The MIT Audit Division reports to the MIT Corporation Risk and Audit Committee for independence, with administrative support from the Executive Vice President and Treasurer's office.

Stubbs joined MIT in 2015 and has advanced through roles in information technology, data analytics, and advisory services. He has shaped risk assessments, audit planning, and division strategy, collaborating with various MIT units and governance.

His experience includes steering cross-Institute efforts in research data management, AI, cybersecurity, and digital transformation. Stubbs is a graduate of the MIT Leader to Leader program and has advised on AI in administration and operations.

Stubbs expressed honor in his new role, emphasizing the Audit Division's role in supporting MIT's mission through independent insight and risk perspective. He aims to build on the division's foundation to navigate a complex risk environment.

Before MIT, Stubbs held audit positions at Clean Harbors, Denbury Resources, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He holds certifications as a certified internal auditor and certified information systems auditor and earned a BBA from Texas A&M University.
