Buildner Announces Architect's Chair Competition Winners

Buildner has announced the winners of its fifth annual Architect's Chair Competition and launched the sixth edition, organized with Stockholm Furniture Fair. The competition challenges designers to create signature chairs.

The competition evaluates designs on clarity, ergonomics, material use, craftsmanship, and manufacturability, translating architectural thinking into furniture.

First prize went to Oscar John Xavier Lahiff for 'Helical,' an adjustable cork stool with a helical system, emphasizing material honesty and glue-free assembly.

Marcus Hannibal Sigvardt won second prize for 'Cantilever Chair,' using bent-veneer shells for an efficient design. Sunmin Kim received third prize for 'La Chair,' exploring structure and support with oak and leather.

The Buildner Student Award was given to 'Jige Chair' for reinterpreting a Korean carrying tool. The Sustainability Award went to 'Anastasia' for using damaged ash wood.

Highlighted submissions explored timber flexibility, Chinese bracket systems, urban furniture, Mediterranean architecture, weaving, upholstery, and posture-based comfort.

The sixth edition is now open for registration, with selected winners exhibited at Stockholm Furniture Fair. The prize fund is €8,000.

Registration deadlines are in September and December 2026, with project submissions due by January 5, 2027.
