DIY Centrifuge for Blood Processing

A custom-built centrifuge was developed to process blood for specific lab analyses, offering an alternative to expensive commercial units.

The project, initiated by Thomas Nguyen, aims to separate T cells from blood using a homemade centrifuge capable of handling 15 mL conical tubes.

Key components include a Raspberry Pi Pico, a 3D printer, and an A2212 brushless motor with an electronic speed controller.

The fixed-angle centrifuge design incorporates safety features such as an MPU-6050 for vibration detection and an IR sensor for rotational speed monitoring.

Currently in development, the first version is operational and undergoing testing with fluids like dyed water and glycerol to ensure safety and efficacy before use with blood.

This DIY approach highlights how custom-built equipment can meet specific scientific needs when commercial options are unaffordable or unsuitable.
