Bilbao Fine Arts Museum Expansion Unveiled

The Bilbao Fine Arts Museum has reopened with a significant new addition, the Agravitas, designed by Foster + Partners. The expansion aims to enhance public access and gallery space while preserving the original structure.

The Agravitas addition spans 55 meters, bridging over the existing museum buildings without altering them, except for necessary restoration. This creates a new enclosed plaza, intended to be the social hub of the museum and a key part of the publicly accessible ground-level areas.

The original 1940s entrance facing the city square has been reopened for the first time in decades. The uppermost level of the new structure features a large, column-free gallery space.
