Bentley Unveils First Electric SUV, the Torcal
Bentley has launched the Torcal, its first all-electric vehicle, an SUV designed to blend modern electric technology with the brand's heritage. Design director Robin Page explained the approach to Dezeen.

The Torcal's design prioritizes Bentley's heritage and DNA over pure aerodynamics, a departure from some competitors. Page stated that while aerodynamics are crucial for electric car range, Bentley's design principles, inspired by iconic models, were allowed to dominate the vehicle's form.
Key design elements include a long wheelbase, a continuous bonnet line, expressed rear arches, and a prominent, illuminated grille. This grille, though not essential for an electric car, is presented as a modern interpretation of Bentley's signature feature, inspired by the Continental T.
The car offers a range of 600 kilometers. Bentley chose an SUV body style to tap into a growing market and cater to customers seeking a Bentley for daily use, differentiating itself from other luxury brands.
The interior features natural materials like timber and Merino wool, aiming for a comfortable and inviting atmosphere rather than a stark, clinical feel. It includes a modest-sized screen and physical dials, balancing modernity with traditional luxury.
The Torcal will also debut Bentley's redesigned logo when it goes on sale later this year. A new, lighter shade of green was chosen for the launch, a modern update to the traditional Bentley green.
