Bar Shrimp uses laser-etched acoustic panels to balance music and conversation
Cocktail bar and restaurant Bar Shrimp in Manchester has incorporated bespoke acoustic panels to manage sound levels, allowing for both music and conversation.

The venue features a dark interior with red velvet curtains and banquettes, inspired by vintage New York bars. Founders aimed to create a relaxed environment where guests could spend extended periods.
To address the concrete floor and glass walls, softer materials were introduced. Autex Acoustics supplied a Frontier Axis ceiling system and Mirage wall panels to reduce reverberation and echo.
The acoustic panels feature laser-etched patterns inspired by natural materials, designed to complement the interior aesthetic.
A custom Clarity M1215 Audio system provides high-quality sound throughout the space.
The acoustic treatment aims to ensure comfort even at high music volumes, enabling clear conversation.
This project follows a six-year collaboration between Bar Shrimp's co-founder and Autex Acoustics, who previously worked on the Higher Ground wine bar.
