Bambu Lab R1 Laser Cutter with 55W Power and CO2 Laser Launched

Bambu Lab introduces the R1, a standalone laser cutter with a power of 55W. This device distinguishes itself from previous diode lasers by being able to cut thicker materials and engrave a wider range of objects.

The R1 can cut wood, acrylic, and leather, among other materials, and engrave glass, stone, and coated metals. The CO2 laser technology makes it possible to engrave materials such as glass and acrylic, which was not possible with previous diode lasers because they cut directly through them. Bambu Lab claims that the R1 can cut up to 18mm plywood and 20mm acrylic.

The device features integrated water cooling for the CO2 tube and a ventilation system to extract smoke. An optional E1 Pro Air Purifier is available separately.

The R1 is equipped with an automatic alignment system that eliminates the need for manual mirror adjustment. This system uses a plate with a crosshair to correct the laser beam.

The working area of the R1 is 600x300mm. An optional conveyor belt can extend the processing length to 3000mm.

Bambu Lab has adapted algorithms from its 3D printers for the R1, including vibration compensation and variable laser power settings for uniform engravings.

The Vision Encoder, an optional calibration tool, claims to improve the motion accuracy of the R1 to 0,1mm over a range of 600mm.

The R1 is available for order now and will be delivered starting in October. The price is 2541 euros excluding shipping costs. Extra lenses and accessories are available separately.
