Bambu Lab launches R1 laser cutter with 55W power

Bambu Lab is releasing the R1 laser cutter, a 55W device that can cut wood, acrylic, and leather, and engrave glass, stone, and coated metals. The machine is available for order now for 2499 euros and will be delivered starting in October.

This is Bambu Lab's first standalone laser cutter, which previously released diode lasers for its 3D printers. The R1, which operates on a CO2 basis, can cut thicker materials and engrave more types than a diode laser. Bambu Lab claims that the R1 can cut up to 18mm plywood and 20mm acrylic. The device can also engrave curved objects.

The laser cutter exhausts smoke through a built-in fan. A separately available E1 Pro Air Purifier can further purify the air.

The R1 features an automatic alignment system that eliminates the need for manual mirror adjustment. This system corrects laser beam deviations with motorized actuators.

The working area of the R1 is 600x300mm. With an optional conveyor belt, material up to 3000mm long can be processed.

Bambu Lab has adapted the algorithms of its 3D printers for the R1, with vibration compensation and variable laser power adjustment for even engravings.

With the optional Vision Encoder, a calibration tool, Bambu Lab claims a motion accuracy of 0,1mm over a range of 600mm.

The R1 comes with a short focal length lens. Lenses with longer focal lengths, a riser base, and a rotary attachment are available separately.
