Plastique Fantastique Unveils Golden Ouroboros Installation on New York's High Line

Berlin-based artist duo Plastique Fantastique has created 'auruBOROS – Urban Memory and Collective Dream,' a large-scale pneumatic installation on New York's High Line, commissioned by Bvlgari as part of its Serpenti Infinito art series.

The installation, a golden, air-filled structure measuring 30x10x10 meters, is inspired by the Ouroboros symbol, representing cycles and continuity. It is designed to interact with its urban surroundings, appearing as a temporary organism weaving through the High Line's architecture and landscape.

Constructed from lightweight, reflective membranes held by air pressure, the structure's geometry adapts to site conditions like wind and pedestrian flow. Ventilators maintain its form, eliminating the need for a rigid support system.

The golden, mirrored surface captures and reflects fragments of the city, changing its appearance throughout the day and visually merging with its environment at times.

The artists, Marco Canevacci and Yena Young, combined 'aurum' (Latin for gold) with Ouroboros, linking gold's alchemical concept of transmutation to the installation's shifting reflections.

The temporary nature of the installation, present from September 10th to 20th, 2026, aims to foster 'Public Love' through shared encounters, leaving a lasting impression on urban memory.

This marks Bvlgari's first public art commission in the United States for the Serpenti Infinito series, which has previously been shown in Shanghai, Seoul, and Mumbai.
