AI Robot Reimagined as a Mobile Orchid Vase

Artists Batten and Kamp created "Beauty Seeker Seeker," an AI robot repurposed as a mobile vase for an orchid, exploring attention dynamics between technology and nature.

The project integrates a decorative object with an autonomous robot to examine the attention economy and the intersection of technology and nature, comparing a flower's biological mechanisms to technologies designed for human engagement.

Beauty Seeker Seeker pairs an AI hexapod robot with a custom vase holding an orchid. Designers limited the robot's functions to shift focus from technological performance to its behavior in a domestic setting.

By underutilizing the robot, the project transforms it into a mobile vessel, highlighting the absurdity of a high-tech object serving a simple purpose and introducing an unfamiliar technological presence into the home.

The robot uses LiDAR to map its environment and track people, maneuvering to direct gazes toward the orchid, positioning the flower as the focal point and the robot as the attention-soliciting mechanism.

A fully automated version is planned for 2027. Current documentation combines automated and remote-controlled movements, showcasing the robot's interaction.
