MIT Welcomes Class of 2030 with Focus on Inquiry, Impact, and Entrepreneurship

She also addressed the role of AI, stating MIT's challenge is to "derive AI’s benefits and counteract its harms," while reaffirming the Institute's founding mission to develop students' powers of discovery and problem-solving.
The convocation also featured remarks from alumni faculty members. Anna Huang, who studies human-computer interactions and AI in music, encouraged students to follow their interests and highlighted MIT as a "supportive environment" for interdisciplinary collaboration. Desirée Plata, an expert in climate and energy solutions, urged students to cultivate optimism and embrace the opportunity to "help develop your respective paths" and have an "amplifying impact."
