Arquitectonica Designs World's Largest Cruise Terminal

Arquitectonica has completed the MSC Cruise Terminal in Miami, the world's largest by size, designed to process 36,000 passengers daily and accommodate three ships simultaneously.

The 492,000-square-foot terminal features a slim, elongated form to efficiently manage passenger flow and ship berthing. Its design includes a grand lobby, VIP lounges, and embarkation/disembarkation gates organized vertically to minimize delays.

The linear structure stretches along Dodge Island, mirroring the movement of passengers and ships. It serves cruise lines MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys, acting as a departure and arrival point for Caribbean itineraries.

The terminal can berth three full-sized ships end-to-end, a significant capacity increase compared to typical single-ship terminals. A 2,400-car parking garage is also integrated into the development.

Inside, the four-story building features an open layout with wooden walls, terrazzo floors, and a large screen displaying underwater scenes. Biometric screening is implemented for enhanced security and expedited passenger movement.

The project is seeking LEED Gold certification and includes infrastructure to support future LNG-powered vessels. Construction began in 2022 and the terminal officially opened in April 2025.

This terminal joins another by Arquitectonica at Port Miami for Virgin Voyages, contributing to the port's evolving architectural identity.
