Analemma Over Callanish Stones

An analemma, a composite image showing the Sun's position at the same time over a year, was captured near Scotland's Callanish Stones.

The image was created by taking photos every few days at noon, featuring the Bronze Age stone circle. The figure-8 shape of an analemma is caused by Earth's axial tilt and elliptical orbit.

The Sun appears at the top or bottom of the analemma at the solstices. This particular image was taken near the December solstice, placing the Sun near the bottom. Equinoxes correspond to the middle points of the analemma, not the intersection.
