Comet NEOWISE Rising Over the Adriatic Sea

A time-lapse video captured Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) rising over the Adriatic Sea before dawn on July 8th, four years ago. The comet was visible to the unaided eye and became known as the Great Comet of 2020.

The video combines over 240 images taken over 30 minutes, showing the comet rising through noctilucent clouds with distant stars in the background.

Comet NEOWISE remained unexpectedly bright for over a month. Its ion and dust tails originated from a nucleus approximately five kilometers wide.
