Curiosity Rover's Martian Selfie

The Curiosity rover captured a selfie on Mars at the south rim of Vera Rubin Ridge, corresponding to Earth date January 23, 2018.

The panorama, composed of 61 exposures from the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI), shows the rover with its arm edited out. The background was captured by the rover's Mastcam on an earlier Martian day.

The ChemCam housing on the rover's mast obstructs the view of Mount Sharp's peak. On August 26, 2026, Curiosity reached an elevation gain of 1 kilometer on its ascent of Mount Sharp from Gale Crater's floor.
