The Complete Sharpless Catalog: 313 Nebulas

An astrophotographer has captured images of all 313 objects in the Sharpless Catalog of H II Regions, a collection that includes not only H II regions but also planetary nebulas and supernova remnants.

The catalog, compiled by Bing Xin from dark skies in China, utilized narrowband filters to capture light from ionized hydrogen and oxygen, along with red-green-blue filters.

Each individual object required 2 to 6 hours of exposure time, resulting in a total of approximately 800 hours to complete the entire catalog.

Notable objects within the catalog include the Eagle (Sh2-49), Heart (Sh2-190), Orion (Sh2-281), Medusa (Sh2-274), and Spaghetti (Sh2-240) Nebulas.
