Anthropic Launches Claude Opus 5.5, Cheaper Than Predecessor

Anthropic has released a new version of its AI model, Claude Opus 5.5. The company claims this version is significantly cheaper than its predecessor, Opus 5.0.

The price for both input and output tokens has been reduced by 20 percent compared to Opus 5.0. Anthropic expects these savings to be particularly noticeable when using Claude Code.

Although Opus 5.5 always thinks before answering, which could potentially cost more tokens, Anthropic states that users will get more done. However, they advise measuring performance per specific task.

The new pricing structure is 4 dollars per million input tokens and 20 dollars per million output tokens. The cost for reading from the cache has also decreased from 50 dollar cents to 20 dollar cents per million tokens.
