Anam Design Studio creates club-like dining room in East Sussex home

Anam Design Studio has renovated a home in East Sussex, incorporating tactile natural materials like red travertine and dark timber to create a warm, inviting atmosphere.

The design emphasizes natural finishes such as timber and stone, chosen for their aesthetic appeal and longevity over man-made materials, reflecting a human connection to natural environments.

The kitchen features red travertine for its island and countertops, complemented by dark oak cabinets and a re-enamelled black Aga in brown and bronze.

Adjacent to the kitchen, a round dining room was designed with a club-like ambiance due to its limited natural light. It features curved oak panels, stone-lined openings, and custom-made furniture.

Two connected reception spaces offer contrasting atmospheres: the front room is light and airy, while the rear reception and TV room adopts a moodier palette with lacquer-finished oak panels for quiet contemplation or entertainment.

A stone surround was added to the opening between the reception spaces to accentuate the contrast between the light and dark rooms.

Bedrooms and a study also utilize dark oak and stone surfaces, with natural wool and linen fabrics enhancing tactility.

The bathrooms feature coordinating stone elements, including a red-tiled bathroom with Rosso Levanto marble and a green-tiled bathroom with Verde Alpi marble flooring.
