Platform Bed Reimagined as Architectural Piece

Amsterdam-based designer Rik Frans Jansen presented PLATFORM, a bed frame constructed from stainless steel and aluminum, at Paris Design Week 2026. The design draws inspiration from building construction, making typically hidden materials visible in a domestic setting.

The PLATFORM bed features bolted metal panels and exposed aluminum profiles, resembling architectural elements. Measuring 250 × 220 × 50 cm, it consists of an aluminum frame clad in stainless-steel panels, elevating the sleeping area.

The design incorporates a headboard with integrated power outlets, maintaining visible joints and bolts. This approach highlights Jansen's architectural background and interest in construction materials.

The rigid metal structure is contrasted with soft, 600-thread-count Egyptian cotton sateen bedding from Brut Studios, available in 'Ashen Stone' and 'Concrete Blue' to complement the steel tones.

Brut Studios, based in Berlin, developed the bedding to align with the PLATFORM concept through material, proportion, and a palette of architectural colors.

The bedding extends the bed frame's aesthetic into the softer elements of the bedroom, maintaining a material and tonal relationship.

PLATFORM is available for order. The exhibition was part of GOOD SELECTION, organized by Lucas Zito during Paris Design Week 2026.
